The symbol of the Itria Valley
One of the most significant, interesting and fascinating experiences that Puglia can offer is certainly a visit to a trullo, symbol of the Itria Valley.
Alberobello is the emblem of this and represents the perfect location to come into contact, even for the first time, with this type of architecture.
The trullo is one of the architectural masterpieces of the past, famous for being a modular construction and for being built dry, without the use of particular mortars or binders. It is characterized by a circular plan and a conical roof, made entirely of local limestone, expertly carved and completed by the terminal pinnacle.
A unique dwelling, which was used as a temporary shelter or as a permanent home by small landowners or agricultural workers.
How the tour is structured
Located between the Itria Valley and the hills of the Murgia in the south-east of Bari, Alberobello has over the years become the location of excellence in Puglia, famous and renowned throughout the world for its trulli.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, Alberobello is one of the unmissable stops for those visiting Puglia, capable of offering unique emotions with its typical buildings and its out of the ordinary urban conformation.
The tour will pass through the most significant neighborhoods of the historic center of Alberobello, Aia Piccola and Monti, perfect for admiring the origins of the city and the secrets of a trullo. The visit then develops in the most famous alleys of the historic center, with a fixed stop at the most renowned trulli: the Trullo Sovrano and the Basilica of Cosma and Damiano, patron saints of the city.
Afterwards, visitors will be able to participate in a Burrata workshop with final tasting.
